The paparazzo who allegedly chased Justin Bieber down a freeway in Los Angeles on July 6 has become the first person charged under a new law, which "criminalizes the dangerous pursuit of a celebrity for photographs."
According to a report by TMZ on Wednesday (July 25), the alleged shutterbug, Paul Raef, was charged with four different counts from the Los Angeles City Attorney.
Raef has formally been charged with two counts of following a vehicle too closely, reckless driving with intent to take pictures for commercial gain, one count of regular reckless driving and one count of failing to obey the lawful order of an officer, after he ignored police's request to pull over.
As a result of this close encounter with the 18-year-old superstar, this new law has officially been put in place. In 2010, a controversial anti-paparazzi statute was signed into law and Raef's case is the first one to fall under it's purview.
The crazed photographer is set to appear in court on August 9 and if convicted on all counts, he could face up to one year in jail.
