The Farrelly brothers in PG-mode celebrate the innocently sadistic antics of Moe, Larry and Curly, the vaudeville trio born between 1897 and 1903, who appeared in a couple of hundred two-reel Hollywood movies between the 1930s and the 1950s. Sticking thumbs into eyes, hitting one another with sledgehammers, pulling out fistfuls of hair and slapping faces, all with extravagant sound effects, they were morons of mayhem. But they were more accomplished than most critics gave them credit for at the time, and are here expertly impersonated by Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes and Will Sasso. Their limited skills, however, are not suited to a feature-length picture, and the flimsy plot, which casts them as orphans trying to save an impoverished orphanage from extinction, resembles a scenario knocked up one afternoon for the Marx brothers and rejected the following day.
