Rumors of a Nirvana anniversary tour with 'a secret frontman' are shot down by a spokesperson in an email to MTV News.

Sure, they performed with Paul McCartney at the 12-12-12 concert, and backed him up on "Saturday Night Live," but if you're hoping for even more from the so-called "reunited Nirvana," well, you may be out of luck.
Yes, after a whirlwind week, reports began circulating that the surviving members of Nirvana — drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear — were planning a full-fledged "anniversary tour with a secret frontman," a singer who wouldn't be McCartney (they collaborated on the track "Cut Me Some Slack," a song featured on the soundtrack to Grohl's upcoming "Sound City" documentary).
Sources said Grohl had been "privately telling friends" that a Nirvana tour was in the works, but wouldn't divulge just who he had in mind to replace Kurt Cobain (the New York Post openly campaigned for Eddie Vedder, Jared Leto or Courtney Love to fill the role). Of course, reps for Grohl were quick to dismiss those rumors as "nonsense," and when MTV News reached out to them for a follow-up comment, well, they weren't changing their tune.
"It is indeed total nonsense," a rep wrote in an email.
So there you have it. While there may not be a Nirvana reunion on the horizon any time soon, both the "Sound City" film and accompanying soundtrack — featuring Grohl jamming with everyone from Stevie Nicks and Rick Springfield to Corey Taylor and Trent Reznor — are set to be released on February 1.
