The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is set to win the weekend box office easily, and is projected to become the biggest December debut in history. The first installment of Peter Jackson’s new fantasy trilogy is currently on pace for $90 million in its opening weekend, which would break the $77 million December debuts for I Am Legend and Avatar in previous years. Skyfall and Rise of the Guardians are battling for a distant second place, with both movies tracking toward $7 million, just ahead of Lincoln ($6.5 million).
